Sneak Peek ~ 'Good Things For Home'

A little sneak peek at the new batch of vintage items headed into the 'Good Things For Home' etsy shop. A lot of earth tones, textures and pops of golden brass. Everyone's house could use a little re-fresh or a little something new this time of year. Out with the OLD and in with the NEW/old?! :D

Guest Room/ Closet Make Over

The guest room /closet make over is almost complete!! I didn't have a huge budget, I spent $50 on a sweet Craigslist daybed (its needs to be slip covered still) and $100 on Menards piping for the closet wall. I spent $20 on two original hand drawn figures (wow right?!) and then I purchased my two frames form Hobby Lobby when they were 50% off to the tune of $50 for both. In the future I am going to have them properly matted and get UV protective glass since they will see a lot of sunlight in that spot on the wall. The rest of the room was decorated with things I already had around the house,  love when that happens. I think the whole thing came together quite nice; and now I can SEE my clothes and shoes!

Guest Room/ Closet Make Over

My guest room/catch all room needs some TLC, its been over a year since anything has been done with it. I need an actual closet too. So my idea is a day bed with a trundle for guesting sleeping over + a walk in style closet for myself. I like that it can become a duel purpose room. I hate that it is currently being underused... wish me luck!

I am hoping to do this project all on my own, I think its possible- I just need a drill!

If my measurements are correct it should fit together like a glove. :D

Mid Century Love

I love Emily Henderson (the designer of the rooms pictured). Ever since working at the Catfish River Antiques when I was in high school I had a love for anything Mid Century, at the time no idea what that even was!! As I got older and went to design school and eventually working at a design firm; I found myself drawn to more simple, rustic and minimal design lacking in much color. I liked the sophistication of the style. But now, as I created my new Etsy shop: Good. Things. For. Home - along with the reading of my new Emily Henderson book, I think my mid century flame has been re-lit! I am finding myself drawn to more bold color and pattern these days, I'm loving the fun laid back fancy free feel of it!!! And I think I am going to go with it :D

I can't believe that this shop is open a MONTH ahead of schedule! This year my resolution was NO PROCRASTINATING! I think I am off to a good start! Tell me what you think, what you would like to see me hunt down?!  

Craigslist Cool

Well this week Craigslist left me rather underwhelmed... maybe it's to cold to get rid of things now. I have high hopes for the spring cleaners though! I did find these few pieces which are cool! Some of which need some new fabric desperately- but good bones!

H. Claire studio work

With the new class of Senior Models about to come into the new studio for meetings- Hanah and I are in gang buster mode to get it all done and looking good! We just finished with sweet black and white striped wall! I couldn't believe how quick it went- what a cool graphic vibe!!

We hung a huge canvas of one of our lovely 2015 Senior models... now I'm looking for some cool vintage brass sconces for each side! Stay tuned for more studio updates!

Getting ready for the holidays is so much fun! We are even planning a little party for the H. Claire models- complete with 'selfie booth' !

Interiors | home office mini re-vamp

Sometimes when your creative space is just calling for change all you can do is something small. Like hang a mirror (like I finally hung this one after months of looking at it sitting on the floor!), re-arrange your workspace items or add some new art! Before my desk as just feeling cluttered and chaotic. I wanted to freshen it up, I needed a subtle change.

 

I used what  had, and pretty much the objects and items that HAD already been on my desk in a new way. The mirror and new art work was key. I already had the shelf up, just a bit of re imagining was all it took! It feels so much different, its weird- but I like it! :D

And no new nook would be complete without a selfie in a newly hung mirror! hahaha! I was on my way to work rocking my new bellybutton kissing jeans! :D

Interiors | A perfect neutral rug

In search of the perfect neutral rug... I was on Wayfair.com for hours! I just can't seem to find THE ONE. I think I will take a trip to Home Goods and actually look at some in person, I think its much easier then shopping online. Of course, we don't all have that luxury and there aren't a ton of places in Madison to get good rugs. Do you know of any places?! Help me out!  :D

There seems to be an endless amount of things on my at home TO DO list... all this little things that are super easy to get done, but somehow the time just gets away from me! Well I realized that you just have to DO IT! No way around it, just get off the computer, the couch or whatever and finish a project Cire'!  

I'm pleased to say that I finally did this little framing project! Took me all of 10 minutes... seriously!

Interiors | DIY pillow cover

I have been making simple pillow covered since I was little. I would collect fun vintage fabric and hand sew them. When I turned 13 my grandma gifted me a sewing machine, that made making pillows so much faster! 

In this post I am going to show you the most simple and easy pillow cover that is fool proof. It is a simple 'envelope' style cover that slips over a pillow form without a zipper. I love making pillow covers because its so easy and it can change the look of a room simply by adding a POP of color or texture!

Below is what you need::

This pillow patter is for an 18" x 18" pillow cover.  I cut my pieces at exactly 18" because I like my pillows 'stuffed' so with the seam allowance the cover will be about 1/2" smaller. If you like your covers loose, simply add 1/2" for your seam allowance.

Once you have your three pieces cut you will create a hem on the two back pieces by 

folding it over twice along the 18" length side- then pin & sew. 

Next you will create a 'pillow sandwich' with the bottom being your front piece with 'good side' face up. Next lay your smaller back piece 'good side' down, lastly the large back piece with 'good side' down as well. Pin all the way around & sew.

Make sure to back stitch over your side seams to reinforce the envelope opening. This prevent the opening from ripping when stuffing the pillow cover. Then clip the 4 corners at a diagonal, this creates sharp corners with you turn your cover right side out.

That's it! Right?! So easy, you can make a cover in less then an hour! Happy sewing! :D

Interiors | leather sofa hunt

Since getting our dog I realize more and more that a leather sofa is a new must. Not only is it ultra durable, its cleanable and dog hair CAN'T stick to it!! :D Of course I fell in love with the West Elm Hamilton leather sofa which is no where close to my current budget. But if by some miracle I kick ass at all my art shows this year its on the top of the wish last.... right after new windows, a fence, etc. etc. I think my sofa is far out of reach unless I stumble upon a vintage one that is in great shape! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for which ever comes first! :D

Interiors | 1 dresser 3 ways

One dresser three ways, option 3! This vibe is rustic and traveled. Using hats as art is a fun way to show off your collection and create some interest! I left the large wooden beads still hung from option 2 because I like the collected feel. All together this is again minimal in color, but lush in objects. 

Black and white with a pop of brass and red. A fun collection of items and books create a collected over time feel. I like the brass and glass box can hold your most precious objects so you can see them and enjoy them daily.

A cool bag becomes art and gives some much needed texture and life. A vintage prayer kilim adds color and is beautifully displayed over the chair.

One dresser styled three ways, styling option 2. This vibe is a colorful and mod. A little throw back to the 60's with a bold painting that anchors the dresser the bright color pops with books, a vessel for jewelry and finally brass and gold. Lastly some texture with basket of toss pillows.

 try hanging objects on the wall that you wouldn't necessarily think about hanging on a wall, the large wooden beads look fun and add another layer to the dresser area! Art you already own!
